CCTS’ Response to the proposed Government of Canada’s Policy Direction

On July 19, 2022, the CCTS submitted comments to the Government of Canada’s consultation about a proposed new Policy Direction to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to address a number of telecommunications priorities, such as improving competition and affordability of telecommunications services, and improving consumer rights and consumer protection.

The proposed Direction directs the CRTC to strengthen the ability of the CCTS to better fulfill its mandate. This includes:

  • Increasing the CCTS’ operational capacity;
  • Ensuring that the perspectives of consumer and civil-society groups are better reflected in the CCTS’ governance;
  • Improving compliance with the CCTS’ rules; and
  • Increasing public awareness of the CCTS and its complaint-resolution process.

The CCTS has submitted a response to the government’s proposed Policy Direction, which can be found on the Government of Canada’s website.
